Compulsory Basic Training

The CBT course syllabus is set by the DVSA (Driving Vehcal Standards Agency) and is designed to get a novice road user and motorcyclist up to a safe standard that will allow them to ride unsupervised on L-plates.

The course is designed to give you some basic bike control skills and some road awareness before you are able to ride un-supervised on ‘L’ plates.

This is designed for the novice rider with no riding experience and upon completion of the training you will have achieved the minimum standard of safety and competence set by the DVSA.

The course objectives are set in 5 elements:
Element A – Introduction.
Element B – Practical on-site training.
Element C – Practical on-site riding.
Element D – Safety talk Element.
Element E– Practical on road riding.

Once the instructor is happy that you have demonstrated the required level of competence in your riding you will be issued with a DL196 certificate,

This is valid for 2 years and will allow you to ride with L-Plates.

If you do not pass your practical motorcycle test within 2 years you will be required to complete another CBT to gain another DL196 certificate.

You will need to study the Highway code, as it is not practical for us to sit and read it to you.

The CBT course starts at 9:30am. The course generally ends between 4 or 4:30pm but can take longer.

You must have your licence* with you at the start of your course.

(* without it we cannot start the CBT. Your licence must be complete and legible.)

You will be with us all day so please dress appropriately for riding motorcycles.

We can supply helmet, jacket and gloves free of charge but you will need to be wearing thick jeans and boots that cover your ankles. Please be aware that this is a minimum standard so if you have motorcycle specific clothing, please wear that.
